The Davenport High School girls basketball team is staying alive after a gritty overtime victory over La Vernia High School, 60-54. Junior guard Macie Fallon led the way, as usual, with 16 points, and freshman guard Kendall Johnston (head coach Terrell Johnston’s daughter) hit five 3-pointers. The young backcourt combined for 31 points and are leading the Lady Wolves to the next round of the playoffs.

Senior point guard Lance Adams of New Braunfels Christian Academy (NBCA) has surpassed 1,000 career points. The milestone was achieved Monday, Feb. 9, in the Wildcats’ playoff victory over Hill Country Christian School of Austin (HCCSA). Adams finished with 21 points, including three of four from 3-point range.
“Honestly, it’s an honor,” Adams said. “Although it is an individual award, I know it’s not possible without the people around me. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”

Addison Briscoe, a striker for Smithson Valley High School's girls soccer team, has reached elite status. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Briscoe scored her 100th career goal in a 3-1 win over district rival Boerne Champion. Her head coach, Jason Adkins, said that in his 24 years of coaching girls high school soccer, he has never had a scorer as prolific as Briscoe.
Smithson Valley maintains its undefeated season behind Briscoe and Newton

With the game tied in the second half and its unbeaten streak in danger, the Lady Rangers responded like a championship contender. On Tuesday, Feb. 10, she dropped 35 points in three quarters and now has more than 1,500 points in her career for the Wolves. What makes it even more staggering is that she was sidelined for 10 games her sophomore year due to an injury.

In the final game of the regular season, the New Braunfels High School Unicorns made the road trip to face the Pieper High School Warriors and came away with a 73-66 victory.
The win improves the Unicorns’ record to 28-7 overall and 12-4 in district play, good for second place in District 26-5A, Region IV. Pieper falls to 20-12 overall and 7-8 in district play, finishing fifth and out of playoff contention.

400 WINS IN HIS 40s: New Braunfels HS basketball head coach achieves career milestone
David Brawner, head basketball coach of the New Braunfels High School Unicorns, has achieved a major career milestone with 417 career wins. Currently, his Unicorns are second in the district with a 27-7 record.
Eleven years ago, Brawner took the job as head coach at his alma mater. At that time, the Unicorns’ basketball program was not trending in the right direction. Since then, Brawner has revitalized the program.

Long Creek High School is still in its infancy, with this being just its second year open and the first year for its varsity basketball programs. There were hardly any external expectations for the girls and boys basketball teams, given that neither had much varsity experience and neither roster included a senior.

Senior Night on Friday, Jan. 30, at Canyon High School ended in a 64–50 victory for the Cougars over Buda Johnson High School.
Senior Night proved fitting, as senior guards Paul Coulombe and Aiden Yantis combined for 43 points. Outside shooting made the difference. The game was tied at halftime and again at the end of the third quarter, but Canyon erupted in the fourth, outscoring Johnson 21–7.
